MWADV 2022 and Downtown Definitely!
Exciting Announcement!
The Washington Square Community Association Board is so excited to announce that we’re partnering with Downtown Definitely Events this year (and moving forward!) to keep our outdoor movie events going for years to come.
Movies With a Downtown View was started in 2014 by Jason & Stefanie Schwingle, downtown residents and Board members of the Washington Square Community Association, and have become quite the popular summertime staple in downtown Rochester. With a variety of movie picks that have ranged from blockbuster hits to smaller indie-films, the events have always been FREE and OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
Who or What is Downtown Definitely?
Downtown Definitely is the brand that is the brain-child of the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation, or RDDC for short. RDDC is a 501c3 not-for profit organization whose sole mission is to drive economic vitality in Downtown Rochester. RDDC accelerates downtown development by positioning and marketing the assets that attract businesses and investment, and it catalyzes innovative ideas that make downtown a more vibrant and inclusive community.
Downtown Definitely Events are a new series of free events and activities produced by the RDDC coming to downtown Rochester from June through December 2022. From food, festivals and shopping to music, movies, and art, Downtown Definitely will be shining the light on downtown to create great new experiences and help to bring the community together again.
This is all about placemaking. A vibrant downtown is critical to retaining talent, regional economic growth, and greater community pride. All of the events under the Downtown Definitely banner will grow a more appealing street-level experience and support the unprecedented levels of investment down here – over $2.5 billion since 2000. If you haven’t been lately, we invite you to see the new downtown, embrace our beloved festivals, and sample some of these new and exciting events and activities.
So with the success of MWADV already, why the partnership?
Downtown Definitely will bring a whole new level to the game. RDDC and Downtown Definitely has a larger pool of funding to draw from and will also be able to expose the events with a much larger marketing reach. At the WSCA, we see this as an all-around win for the community and our organizations: the events can continue to get bigger and better over the coming years, draw upon much larger resources, and best yet, stay FREE and OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC to make downtown Rochester the best place it can be.
Details of our 2022 MWADV Season:
All screenings are free and family-friendly*. As a partner, Foodlink will be offering free snacks for the first 200 attendees. Food & drinks from food trucks, popcorn, ice cream, and other classic movie concession items will be available for purchase.
“Doors” open at 7:00 p.m.
Movies will start at approximately 8:15 p.m. on July 15th; 8:30p.m. on August 5th; 8:45p.m. on August 26th
